                  Our Year in Review

Glory to God for all things!

As the year ends, we reflect upon the abundant blessings God has bestowed upon us during this remarkable year filled with strong leadership, spiritual development, academic excellence, and community engagement at our beloved Three Hierarchs Orthodox Christian High School in 2023.

Leadership

With God's great benevolence and through the prayers of our beloved community, Three Hierarchs Orthodox Christian High School was blessed by the Romanian Orthodox Metropolis, the Antiochian Diocese of Toledo and Midwest, the Diocese of Chicago and Mid-America of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of New Gracanica-Midwestern America and the Diocese of the Midwest, Orthodox Church in America. Additionally, our Board of directors, Faculty, and Staff is comprised of humble, selfless, and phenomenal individuals. Each individual brings an array of skills and talents and works diligently to fulfill our mission.

Spiritual & Academic Development

Three Hierarchs Orthodox Christian High School is the first and only Pan-Orthodox Classical high school in Illinois, dedicated to providing a superior Orthodox Christian education rooted in faith, academic excellence, and character development to students. At Three Hierarchs Orthodox Christian High School, Orthodoxy is at the core of our mission. We strive to educate and cultivate students' relationships with God, their neighbors, and the world around them in a supportive Orthodox Christian environment that nurtures their spiritual and intellectual formation.

Throughout the year, our Theology courses and Orthodox Lifestyles courses have been engaging and filled with much joy. Before each class, our children pray together in our chapel with their teachers and classmates and partake in discussions and projects where students strengthen their beliefs and their relationship with God and one another. As I stand in the chapel, hearing faculty and children pray, my heart leaps with gratitude and glee.

Additionally, we have hosted speakers who further enriched our students' knowledge and faith. In September, Mr. Christopher Chiakulas, MA & MED, School Guidance Counselor, presented "Paving the Road to College: Choosing Your Path through an Orthodox Perspective." His presentation focused on the Spiritual, Academic, Social, and Financial aspects of choosing a college. In October, we had the pleasure of hosting our first youth retreat. Mrs. Vicki Natsis, MHS & OTR Health Coach, presented on "Health and Resiliency" during this retreat. Her presentation focused on the spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional aspects. Our students found her examples of Modern Saints applicable and inspiring.

Academically, our students continue to strive for excellence in all their courses. Our dedicated faculty members work tirelessly to provide high-quality education, ensuring that our students gain knowledge and cultivate their critical thinking skills and Orthodox values. During our Theology courses taught by Protodeacon Dr. Jovan Anicic, one can hear students utilizing the Socratic Method as they apply, discuss, and defend their faith and the actions of others, including Saints. During our Orthodox Lifestyles courses taught by Mrs. Jolynn Ruggerio, one can see the integration of science, music, art, literature, history, geography, and theology.

Community Engagement

In our Orthodox Lifestyles Course, our students explored what it means to be a good steward not only of our material gifts but also of God's gift of creation. We must understand that nothing really belongs to us but is a gift from God to be used to glorify Him. Project Pay it Forward is a program where each student is given a sum of money. They are then challenged to devise a plan to use the money for the good of humanity and to glorify God. We are grateful to our benevolent and generous board members who donated $50.00 for each child. Each child is assigned a donor to whom they are accountable. This is a yearlong project for the students to develop, implement, and ultimately give a written and oral presentation at the end of the year to the board and parents of their accomplishments (personal communication, Jolynn Ruggerio).

Collaborative Partnerships & Founding Families

In 2023, we forged meaningful and active relationships with our Hierarchs, clergy, founding families, donors, educational consultants, scientists, doctors, and entrepreneurs. We actively collaborated with our families, benefactors, and experts to create a financially secure school, provide valuable learning and spiritual opportunities for our students, and strengthen our relationships with our Pan-Orthodox community. These collaborations have further enriched our academic curriculum and strengthened our faith.

Looking Ahead

As we bid farewell to 2023, we look ahead to the future with prayer, hope, and enthusiasm. We remain prayerful and committed to our mission as we strive to educate and cultivate students' relationships with God, their neighbors, and the world around them in a supportive Orthodox Christian environment that nurtures their spiritual and intellectual formation. We will continue to work diligently to provide a robust classical education and Orthodox environment.

We express our gratitude to our prayerful Hierarchs, hardworking Board of Directors, dedicated faculty, supportive parents, committed staff, and, most importantly, our incredible students. Together, we have made 2023 a year filled with prayer, growth, and faith-centered experiences. We eagerly anticipate the adventures and blessings that the upcoming year holds for our beloved school.
